10-YEAR RI FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF WIDOW

A 24-year-old man, who sexually abused a widow under the pretext of marriage, has been sentenced to undergo ten years of rigorous imprisonme­nt by the special court for atrocities against women. The accused was identified as Madugula Kondal.

According to police, Kondal befriended and sexually assaulted the woman while promising to marry her. However, when she started insisting on marriage, he avoided her. After realising that she was cheated, the victim approached Bhongir Town police and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, the police collected evidence, arrested the accused and remanded him to judicial custody.

Subsequent­ly, the investigat­ing officer filed a charge-sheet in the court. During the trial on Monday, the judge at the special sessions court for atrocities against women in Nalgonda, V. Sharadha Devi, convicted Kondal, awarded him 10 years RI and imposed a fine of `50,000. Rachakonda police commission­er Mahesh M Bhagwat said, “DNA evidence was crucial in securing conviction along with direct and other evidence.” He appreciate­d the investigat­ion officer and other officials for their efforts in getting the conviction of the accused.
