Applicants to get new ration cards from today: Kamalakar

KAMALAKAR SAID Civil Supplies Department will provide an additional quota of 62,400 metric tonnes of rice per annum. State will be spending extra `68 crore per annum, at the rate of `14 crore per month.

Civil supplies minister Gangula Kamalakar will formally launch issuance of new ration cards under “Anna Yojana” in Jayashanka­r Bhupalpall­y district on Monday. Simultaneo­usly, other ministers will follow suit in their respective districts.

In a statement to media here on Sunday, Kamalakar underlined that Chief Minister K. Chandrasek­har Rao has constantly been striving to turn great poet Dasharathi's dream of there being no hunger deaths in Telangana. It is on CM's direction that Civil Supplies Department has started the process of issuing new ration cards to all those who have applied.

The minister said ministers, local MLAs and MLCs as well as people's representa­tives at various levels across the state will be distributi­ng ration cards to beneficiar­ies in each constituen­cy. He disclosed that

3,09,083 new cards are being issued without leaving a single applicatio­n pending. In all,

8,65,430 additional beneficiar­ies will get 6 kg of new rice every month. Kamalakar said Civil Supplies Department will provide an additional quota of

He maintained that Hydeabad, Rangareddy and Medchal districts have the highest number of new ration cards. With issuance of new cards, total number of cards will go up to

90.50 lakh, benefittin­g 2.88 crore people of the state.

The minister said state government is spending `2,766 crore a year on distributi­on of rice at the rate of ` 231 crore per month.
