An earthquake measuring 4 Richter scale occurred near Nagarkurnool on Monday. Fortunately, there were no casualties or loss of property reported in the incident, according to the National Centre for Seismology.

“There was an earthquake that struck the area in the morning. It was recorded on our seismographs as a quake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale. Fortunately, there was no damage recorded due to the quake. It was the movement of tectonic plates that caused the quake,” D Srinagesh of the National Geophysical Research Institute told this newspaper.

However, the National Centre for Seismology recorded the quake to be a

4 on the Richter scale. On social media it said: ‘Earthquake of

Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on 26-07-2021, 05:00:53 IST, Lat: 16.00 & Long: 78.22, Depth: 10 Km, Location:

156km S of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.’ (sic)

There were, however, doubts that the quake would have disrupted the works at the Srisailam Dam. The works for the Srisailam Left Bank Canal are being taken up by the state government. Highly placed sources confirmed to this newspaper that there was no damage to the canal or works taken up. “It was not an earthquake. It was just a tremor, on the Richter scale it was recorded as 3.7. Its effect is very minimal. We can say it has no effect at all,” the source said.
