29 Women Officers who did not opt for PC released
Some 29 women officers in Indian Army who did not opt for Permanent Commission have been released from service.
After Supreme Court landmark judgement in February last year to grant Permanent Commission (PC) to Women Officers in Indian Army, a Special Number 5 Selection Board for screening Women Officers for grant of PC was constituted in September 2020.
“29 Women Officers (WOs), who did not opt for Permanent Commission in the Special Selection Board No 5 have been released from service. Out of these 29 officers, three WOs were released without pension based on their own option/willingness as these officers had served between 1014 years of service in the Army,” MoS defence Ajay Bhatt said in a

Earlier this month, Indian Army had said that permanent commission was granted to 424 out of the 615 women officers considered by Special Number 5 Selection Board.
All Women Officers who were considered in this Special Number 5 Selection Board and not granted PC, will yet be eligible for pension subject to serving for a minimum of 20 years in service, it had said. “Some Women Officers who have already served for 20 years have been released with pension, while others will be allowed to continue to serve till 20 years and would be released with pension,” said Indian Army.
Meanwhile, Bhatt in reply to another question said that there is no proposal of privatisation of Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) under the administrative control of Department of Defence Production.
Last month, Cabinet Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) had approved to convert the production units of OFB into seven separate Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs).
