Make MLAs’ age limit from 21, says Revanth

Will discuss the issue with Sonia: TPCC chief

IN HIS lifetime, Rajiv Gandhi had strived hard to make India a powerful and federal nation, the Congress leader said.

TPCC president Revanth Reddy proposed on Friday that youth be allowed to contest the Assembly polls from the age of 21.

An amendment to the Constituti­on is required and this matter will be discussed with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi soon. Youths at this age become IAS and IPS officers, so why should youths at this age not be allowed to become MLAs, he asked.

Party leader Mallu Vikramarka, AICC Telangana state incharge Manickam Tagore, AICC secretary Bosu Raju, former MP Hanumantha Rao, TPCC working presidents Geetha Reddy, Mahesh Goud and others were present.

Speaking at the meeting, the TPCC chief said youths got the right to vote at the age of 18 due to an initiative from Rajiv Gandhi. Of 10 IT profession­als in the world, four are from India.
