- DC CORRESPONDENT

Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy and state vice president N.V.S.S. Prabhakar appealed to the people to make the public meeting of union home minister Amit Shah in Nirmal on Friday a roaring success.

Amit Shah would visit Nirmal on September 17 to address a public meeting on the occasion of Hyderabad Liberation Day.

The meeting would be held at Veyyi Urila Marri near Nirmal where 1000 Telangana Liberation fighters have been hanged by Razakars during the erstwhile Nizam regime.

Bapu Rao, Narayana Reddy and Prabhakar toured Vastapur and nearby hamlets in Nirmal where there are large population of Gonds and Adivasis.

Around 1,000 regular teachers from government schools, holding placards and raising anti-government slogans, staged a peaceful protest at the office of the director, school education here on Wednesday.

Protesting under the banner of Telangana Progressive Teachers Federation (TPTF), they demanded clearance of long-pending salaries to 84 teachers working in Kasturbha Vidyalaya.

They come under the DSE and have not received salaries from February 2020. As a consequence, even those who are eligible have been denied promotions.

The protesters lamented that the government has not been supporting the education system in the state for the last seven years. When the protesters tried to cross the gates of the DSE office, police personnel prevented them from entering.

Maisa Srinivasulu, TPTF, general secretary, said, “On July 31, we sent a notice to the chief secretary asking him to solve problems in governmentrun schools but there has been no response. Having run out of patience, we staged a protest today. Additional DSE J. Lingaiah called us for talks. We explained our problems and other issues pertaining to the teaching staff. He assured to take up the issue with the higher authorities.”

P. Yellaiah, a teacher, who was at the protest, said, “Education has been totally neglected by this government. Those studying in government schools are not getting proper infrastructure or quality education. This government is only concentrating on those welfare schemes that help cultivate a vote-bank.”
