State’s IT, ITeS exports grew exceptionally: KTR

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Telangana has registered a phenomenal growth of

26.14 per cent in the IT/ITeS exports in 2021-22 at `1,83,569 crore against

`1,45,522 crore clocked in

2020-21, according to IT Progress Report 2021-22 released by IT minister K.T. Rama Rao here on Wednesday.

About 1,49,506 new jobs were added in 2021-22, taking the total jobs in the IT sector to 7,78,121, an increase of 23.78 per cent.

Drawing comparisons, he said, while the national exports grew at 17.2 per cent, Telangana alone grew at 26.14 per cent in the second year of the

Covid-19 pandemic when people continued to work from their homes and there were apprehensions of losing jobs.

Terming Telangana’s growth rate nothing short of stellar, Rama Rao said this was achieved amid

Covid-19 second wave, which surpassed all the expectations.

Quoting NASSCOM estimates to prove that Telangana has surpassed national average in growth rate in terms of IT exports and job creation, Rama Rao said while a total of 4,50,000 net new jobs were added to the IT sector in the country in

2021-22, Telangana alone contributed to a third of the net new national employment with nearly

1.5 lakh of the 4.5 lakh net new jobs.

“As per the ITIR (Information Technology Investment Region) estimates in 2013, the IT exports for the state (undivided Andhra Pradesh) were supposed to reach

`2,09,221 crore by 2035. Going by our current growth rate, Telangana IT exports will cross the 2035 projections by 2025 without ITIR support. That is, we will reach the 25-year target in 15 years. Also, the ITIR projections assumed a national GDP growth between 6 per cent (pessimistic) and 7.5 per cent (optimistic) over the

25-year timeframe,” Rao stated. “We are not resting on laurels. We are not content with being number 2 in the country. We are giving the premier destinations in India in terms of technology a run for their money,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Rama Rao on Wednesday inaugurated the global technology company ZF’s largest technology centre in Hyderabad, that works on mobility solutions. He said that ZF had been a significant player in the growth story of Telangana.

“We are inviting ZF to be part of the Telangana mobility Valley which has players like Intel, Qualcomm and others to work on mobility-related projects,” he said.

The centre, which would be the largest software hub for the ZF Group globally, has about 3,000 employees currently and the company plans to add 5,000 engineers in the near future. The 3 lakh sq. ft. facility has been set up with an investment of 35 million Euros.
