Sunila Gollapudi, danseuse and founder of Nartanasala said, “I am performing ‘Navajanardana Parijatham’ with a novel interpretation of Andhranatyam which was recreated as Perini Sivatandavam by the late legend.
Andhranatyam is a traditional dance form dating back to 2000 years that was performed by ‘Devadsis’ in temples as a form of worship. It comprises of the Lasya tradition of female dance and ‘Perini’ the male warrior dance, a vigorous dance form characterised by rapid footsteps and the essence is to invoke Lord Shiva. I am also an exponent of music and painting.”
Acharya Kalakrishna said, “My student Sunila has learnt Andhranatyam since her childhood and performed several shows. I have worked on alternative contexts mentioned by my guru and trained Sunila. On Saturday, Sunila will be performing a Shringara Rasa, predominant solo dance depicting an episode of love story between Lord Shri Krishna and his wife, beautiful Satyabhama, which is as ancient as the Gita Govindam”.
Entry to the event is free to all.
