Eagles close to Tigers in top of the table chase
Early tournament favourites Boulder Hills Tigers and T Eagles continued their winning form by beating Jaagruthi Jaguars and Novotel Stars respectively by identical 2-1 scorelines in the third round of the ATUM T9 Golf Challenge at the Boulder Hills Golf & Country Club.
The Boulder Hills Tigers are on top of the leaderboard with 7 points, closely followed by T Eagles at 6.5. Jaagruthi Jaguars lie third on the seven-team table with 4 points while Novotel Stars and BHGCC Raiders are joint fourth with 3 points each. After the sixth round, top four teams will qualify for the knockout stage.
In the day’s first match, BHGCC Raiders overcame the challenge of Boulder Ninjas 2-1 after the disappointment of last week. Rakesh Chillar scored the decisive point for the Raiders after winning his singles game 1 hole up with none to play. Once Santhosh had put the Ninjas in the lead with a 2 holes up with none to play win, the pair of Micheal O’Sullivan & Fintan O’Dwyer pulled one back for a wonderful come-frombehind win.
In another match, T Eagles pulled off a stunning 2-1 win against a strong Novotel Stars team. Satish Manchala played out of his skin to bring home a point after Stars captain C. V. Ramana Reddy had given his team the lead, both winning 2 holes up with 1 to play. The pair of Deepak Singh & Veen Pula sealed the match with a comfortable 3 holes up with 1 to play win in the doubles.
Championship leaders Tigers came home with Anil Yamani and the pair of Sridhar Reddy & Dr K. P. Reddy continuing their unbeaten run with 3 holes up wins. Viswanath Mallichetty was the lone ranger for Jaagruthi Jaguars as he notched up his third point of the tournament.
