DARE TO BE DIFFERENT:
MOST FOLLOWERS LOOK FOR INFLUENCERS, WHO COME UP WITH ORIGINAL FASHION IDEAS AND EXPERIMENT WITH VARIOUS TRENDS. IF IT WASN’T FOR THE INFLUENCERS FLOUTING THE RIGID FASHION NORMS AND EXPERIMENTING WITH DARING TRENDS, WE WOULD HAVE NEVER SEEN INCLUSIVITY IN THE FASHION WORLD.
Most followers look for influencers, who come up with original fashion ideas and experiment with various trends. If it wasn’t for the influencers flouting the rigid fashion norms and experimenting with daring trends, we would have never seen inclusivity in the fashion world. These days, brands and designers collaborate with influencers to push their products and create a buzz. Designer Kanika Jain, founder of Kanelle, feels the best way to get attention from online audiences is to stick to what you do best as a brand/person and create meaningful content that makes your followers come back to and for new ones to follow you.
It is definitely inter- esting to see digital con- tent creators trying out some bold and trendy fashion for their shoots, remarks Kanika, and says, “For the past couple of years it has been interesting to see how everyone was shooting their loungewear styles. With respect to this, it would be very interesting to see how they can try and style athleisure/loungewear to style in a way that can be worn to work and not just work from home style. To see a mix of athleisure/loungewear styled with more semi-formal going-out looks got my attention for blending opposite styles seamlessly.”
INSTA VALIDATION:
In the era of influencers, fashion is more democratic than ever. Earlier, fashion magazines targeted mostly an elite population, while the latest trends and styles were less known to the masses.
The success of influencer fashion was driven by its practicality and accessibility for the middleclass. Today we’re aware of back-to-school trends, work wear essentials, and date night styles because of social media. Nonetheless, there is still scope for improvement in influencer fashion, highlights Vaibhav Goel, founder of The White Pole.
While many styles are hip on Instagram, there’s a need to embrace minimalist comfort, believes Vaibhav. He mentions, “The footwear style that is quite underrated on social media is sports sandals. They are the best pick for a rainy
day, an active day, or even a lazy day when you prioritize comfort over style. Although, Instagram trends come and go with every season, so it’s all about changing aesthetics. As
we are about to welcome monsoons in India, the colour palette has become brighter, so that it does not get
washed out by the rains. At the same time, comfort and sustainability are of priority. Fashion

only respond to trends that cater to practicality with style.”
Whereas designer Aditi Swain vouches for a vintage look with contemporary details for a drool-worthy online shoot. She recommends, “A humble summer cotton dress for a cocktail brunch or a holiday post would look fabulous. Combine the pastel and neutral tones with a pop of colour for a signature look that radiates the New York 90’s prêt vibes and it always works well with the online audience.”
With viral campaigns and aggressive online marketing, fashion brands often tie-up with online creators
to amass an audience. As an influencer one has to constantly create new content to stay relevant and engage your audience. A lot of effort goes into making quality content, and it could also cost a lot to buy new clothes and accessories every time. A good idea to survive the constant wardrobe upgrade is to rent outfits and Shilpa Bhatia, founder of The Clothing Rental. She sheds more light on this trend. She feels influencers work very well for discovering new places, and trends, and points out, “Visual appeal is of primary importance and renting outfits or looks only makes sense to keep things fresh and looking fabulous. Influencers make their trend, and in India, we notice a lot of them mix Indo-western silhouettes to create new styles.”
