Aamir’s ex-wife Kiran Rao’s statement which the actor echoed in a TV programme has come back to haunt him yet again as the film Laal Singh Chaddha is being targeted ahead of its release with Twitteratti asking audiences not to see the film
It can be recalled that in November 2015 when Aamir Khan was on a TV show and was speaking about religious intolerance, he did mention that his then wife Kiran Rao said she wanted to leave India. That led to a huge backlash for him. Though Aamir did mention that, “Our country is very tolerant, but there are people who spread ill-will.”
Sources indicate that they have been wanting to create trouble for all his films like that but could not do so for Dangal because it was released in the aftermath of the demonetisation and hence the IT cells were busy working on the positives of the November 8 announcement by the prime minister in the same year.
“But they got their chance yet again when Thugs Of Hindostan released and then they asked for the film to be banned. What helped was the fact that the film was also very bad. And now after Aamir’s film is going to release after four long years, they have a chance to pull down a new film release yet again,” say sources.
Some Twitter users dug up the actor’s controversial statements from earlier and that led to a new #Boycottlaalsinghchaddha hashtag to trend again. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s old statements also were the cynosure of attraction for the attackers who used those statements to pull down the film.
“As your wife said you are not safe in India, why are you telecasting your film here? (Sic),” and “#Aamir Khan meet Turkish First Lady even when Turkey radicalising Indian Muslim youth with help of Pakistan. Turkey has been funding anti-india activities & openly backing Pakistan on Kashmir,” were some of the posts that were trending along with the #Boycottlaalsingh
Chaddha hashtag.
