Rains throw traffic out of gear in city

- DC CORRESPONDENTS

After a respite of two days, the rains were back on Monday, disrupting normal life and causing waterlogging in several parts ofthe city

Malkajgiri received heavy rainfall and waterlogging was reported from Safil Colony, East Anandbagh and Vishnupuri Colony. The TS Development Planning Society, said East Anandbagh received 84 mm of rain, Madhusudhannagar 69.3 mm and Mettuguda 48.3 mm.

In fact, East Anandbagh received most of its rainfall, 73.8 mm, in an hour from 10 am.

Waterlogging also slowed down traffic moving from Tarnaka to Malkajgiri. Elsewhwere, streets were inundated at Bapu Ghat, parts of Begumpet and Attapur.

Monday's rainfall again forced the HMWS&SB to open the gates of Osmansagar, where four gates were opened, and Himayatsagar

where two gates were opened. Due to the rise in level of Musi river, officials closed the Puranapul, Moosarambagh and Chaderghat bridges.

Until 7 pm, the GHMC control room received 65 complaints of waterlogging and 10 of tree falls. Three feeders broke down, at Jana Chaitanya, Sai Baba Nagar and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, which led to power outages in these areas.

In Secunderabad, twowheeler riders and pedestrians on SP Road took shelter under Metro Rail stations and viaducts, creating traffic snarls. Adding to the woes, motorists started driving on the wrong side.

According to the SCB, water entered many houses in Rasoolpura. Raja Malleshwari, a resident of the Vishnupuri Colony, East Anandbagh, said, "A pit was dug over six months ago but not covered. The rain has filled the pit, making it impossible for a person to spot it.”
