‘Bimbisara is a time travel tale’

…It’s a piece of fiction, says the film’s director Vashist

Kalyanram’s upcoming film Bimbisara takes its name from a historical king. But we have borrowed only King Bimbisara’s name, the film is not related to him. It’s just a fictional script,” clarifies director Vashist. He says it’s a socio-fantasy drama, a time travel tale.

Vashist says he was inspired by yesteryear fantasy films like Aditya 369 among others, and penned the story. “While most of these films have characters that have travelled to the past, our film’s protagonist will travel from the past to the present,” says the director.

He said Kalyanram agreed immediately on hearing the narration since the film was a first of its kind for the actor too.

The makers have done a lot of research on Kalyanram’s character regarding the costumes, styling, body language, etc. “Kalyanram garu’s look as King Bimbisara is completely different and fresh,” says the director. The team spent a bomb on the VFX. “Being a new director, it is difficult to handle a project of this magnitude, but Kalyanram garu believed in me,” says the director thanking the actor.

One of the most difficult parts of the film was to create a completely new and a different universe. Since it is a period drama the props had to be carefully designed.

“The story is set in 500 BC; the art team has done a commendable job on that,” he shares, adding that the film also talks about the philosophy of life.

BEING A NEW DIRECTOR, IT IS DIFFICULT TO HANDLE A PROJECT OF THIS MAGNITUDE, BUT KALYANRAM GARU BELIEVED IN ME. HIS LOOK AS KING BIMBISARA IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND FRESH — VASHIST, DIRECTOR
