Jeeyar: Reforms in temple administration are a must
Leaders should not make personal accusations, says priest
Padma Bhushan awardee Chinna Jeeyar Swamy said that being a sage, worldly recognitions and awards did not hold any significance for him.
He was speaking at a press conference at the Samata Murthy Spoorthi Kendra in Muchintal on Monday. Jeeyar said, “We never expected or wanted it. We will continue on our mission to work for the betterment of society.”
Jeeyar expressed dissatisfaction over the current situation in political parties and said that the leaders should not indulge in personal accusations against each other.
Recalling the times of philosopher-saint Ramanujacharya, Jeeyar said that in those times governments looked after the functioning of the temples and the society was built around the temples. “In order to bring in a transformation in the society it is necessary to reform the temples and the temple administration in the country, reinstating the temple-oriented society like old times”, he said.
Against the backdrop of the panchaloha Statue of Equality being open to all, Jeeyar said that Ramanujacharya was a reformer of his times who opened the doors of temples to women and Dalits. “This structure will also unite people by bringing them together on a common platform,” he said.
A ten-day Brahmotsavam will be organised at the Kendra from February 2 to February 12 to celebrate the first year of the inauguration of the Statue of Equality. The Brahmotsavam will have poojas, yagnas and the Bhagavad Gita recital. It will be the first time that 108 idols will be worshipped together.
