Porsche India clocks best ever sales growth in ’22

- MICHAEL GONSALVES PUNE, JAN. 30

Porsche, the German sports luxury car maker, on Monday said its sales of cars in India jumped 64 per cent in 2022 to 779 units against 474 units last year.

Its electric vehicle, the Taycan, accounted for 10 per cent of the entire sales. This year it was Porsche India’s best ever sales year since 2014.

The massive surge in sales was driven by a strong interest among the buyers for its SUVS and sports cars, with a 69 per cent growth in the sales of SUV models such as Macan and Cayenne, Porsche India said in a statement.

Porsche sold a record 399 units of the Cayenne last year, making it the bestselling model for the brand in India.

The premium carmaker said the sales include 78 units of its all-new electric Tycan, launched in December 2021, in the 12month period. This is a significant number for a premium car, let alone an EV, that starts at `1.53 crore at pan India showroom. The Taycan was launched in India in November 2021.

Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director, Porsche India, said the strong result shows the upward trajectory that started in 2021 was maintained through 2022.

Porsche India sells 45 models and variants in India, comprising sportscars, sport sedans and SUVS. The 911 models are priced between `1.72 crore-`3.24 crore, while the prices for 718 series ranges between `1.36 crore- `2.54 crore.

While the Cayenne starts at `1.26 crore, the Macan starts at `83.21 lakh. Prices for Porsche’s two sedans, the Taycan and Panamera, start at `1.53 crore and `1.58 crore, respectively.

During the previous year, he said, Porsche India set up three new dealerships in Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.
