Explore India’s Own Grand Canyon
Andhra Pradesh
Far from the prying eyes of tourists lies the spectacular gorge of Gandikota along the Pennar River in Andhra Pradesh. Often called the Grand Canyon of India, this spectacular landscape looks like it is coming straight out of an Arizona tourism booklet. One can also visit the medieval fort of Gandikota that was once considered impregnable, thanks to the protection provided by the gorge. While in the area, drop by the Belum Caves, claimed to be the largest accessible cave system in India. The best time to visit is between September and February, when the land isn’t scorched by the sun.
