Go On A Journey Through Time
Dadra & Nagar Haveli
A tiny union territory, Nagar Haveli is nestled between Maharashtra and Gujarat, and Dadra is an enclave a kilometre away. The region was under
Portuguese rule until the mid-1950s, and you can still see traces of this colonial past in many places, particularly in the capital of Silvassa. With artefacts like kitchen tools, musical instruments, and fishing gear, the Tribal Cultural Museum in the town provides a valuable insight into the tribal heritage of the region. At the museum, which is open to public from 9 am to 5 pm every day, one can also buy artefacts like Warli paintings, made popular by the eponymous tribe of the region. While in Silvassa, set some time aside to visit Japanese-style gardens like the Vanganga and Dadra Park, and shop for local handicrafts. The Daman Ganga river flows through this verdant zone, adding to its scenic beauty. Wildlife-lovers can head to the Vasona Lion Safari, just outside Silvassa, to see the majestic Asiatic lions in their natural habitat.
