Lose Yourself On The Great Rann
Gujarat
The seasonal salt marsh of the Rann of Kutch feels like the end of the world. The annual festival here, the Rann Utsav, is scheduled to take place between November 1 and February 20 later this year. Take flight on a hot air balloon above the salt flats, embark on a camel safari on the endless salt plains, celebrate the musical genius of local artists, and buy traditional handicrafts from artisans of the region. During the festival, a tent city pops up right in the middle of the desertscape. This is where you can live in imperial style at the Darbari or Rajwadi suites. The wondrous geographically unique landscape, rich in biodiversity, is also home to a wealth of fauna, and attracts scores of migratory birds like cranes, ducks, pelicans, flamingos and terrestrial birds like sand grouse, francolins, and the Indian bustard.
