TThe birthplace of yoga and Ayurveda, India has always been the most sought after country for eager global travellers seeking a spiritual sojourn. Whether it’s some of the world’s top wellness retreats (p. 45) and therapies (p. 80) on offer here, or the mystical nature of destinations like Varanasi (p. 08) (where our cover is shot), Kedarnath (p. 10), or Rishikesh (p. 42)—if there’s one destination that connects across all age groups when it comes to wellness of the mind, body, and soul, it is India. And why not? India has been the epicentre of yoga—the most trending topic in the world of wellness—ever since its origin about 5,000 years ago. This issue of Discover India gives you an insider view on all the places you need to traverse in search of nirvana.

In addition, if you are an adventure lover, our expedition to Pindari Glacier (p. 58) offers enough food for thought to plan a visit there sooner rather than later. Take the road less travelled through the lesserknown Himalayan villages of Jibhi and Bir (p. 72). Explore Kashmir (p. 110) the touristy way to gauge why it lives up to its moniker of jannat (heaven). And if you want to sit back and relax in a nature retreat, head to Coorg in Karnataka (p. 52). Moreover, a heritage trip to Hampi (p. 66) makes you travel back in time; just like the Royal Grandeur tour at City Palace, Jaipur (p. 36). This issue also includes a local’s guide to Chennai (p. 20) and Shimla (p. 28) (popularly known as the Queen of Hills).

So, if you’re planning an itinerary that inclines towards R&R, and a trip that will inevitably lead you to rediscover yourself, you know just the country to look up!
