Call Of The East

- By SUSHMITA SRIVASTAV

After treating diners with authentic Chinese flavours at the Hyatt Regency Delhi, TCK by The China Kitchen lands itself at the bright and breezy Cyber Hub in Gurugram, where old-fashioned decor and scrumptious East Asian spreads transport you to the breathing streets of Beijing.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS WHAT WE LOVED

To begin with, the concept of ‘dining around the kitchen’, with separate stations for noodles, dumplings, teas, and desserts, along with an interactive stage for bartenders and chefs, won us over. While the TCK salad with creamy avocado and cress sauce is a great way to start the meal, the wok-fried mushroom salad and crystal shrimp dumplings are more indulgent appetisers. The star of the evening, Beijing Roasted Duck, deserves a special mention for its timehonoured preparation. Marinated in honey and sauces for 48 hours before being tossed into the wood-fired oven, the dish is served by Head Chef Zhang Hong Sheng himself at your table, where he carefully slices and rolls the meat in thin crêpes with sweet bean sauce, and mashed garlic and cucumber. Wind up with a divine scoop of chocolate rocky road ice cream, or wash all the flavours down with a cup of Chinese tea.

SIGNATURE DISHES DI RECOMMENDS

Shanghai chicken dumpling injected with Shaoxing wine (a type of Chinese rice wine) is a revelation for Chinese food-lovers. The place offers an enviable mix of Chinese tea and craft mocktails; Chrysanthemum tea and Ginger Orange Illusion being the front-runners. Prior reservation is highly recommended.

FINAL TAKE WHY WE WOULD RETURN

The place nails the vibrant vibe of the streets of Beijing with its indulgent interiors. Swift service, coupled with courteous staff and authentic flavours make the place a must-visit for gourmands.
