Getting Around
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport serves Kolkata with international and domestic flights. Howrah Junction is the oldest and largest railway complex in India and an attraction in itself. Autorickshaws are the best way to travel within the city. The iconic yellow Ambassador taxis are omnipresent on the streets of Kolkata, but they may not always ply by meter. Kolkata also has a metro rail system (India’s first), but it operates on one line only. You can also choose hand-drawn rickshaws, trams (the only tram system in India) and ferries (for river crossing) to go around the city.
