Raise The Bar

Sexy Soda is an elegant restobar and a new entrant in Gurugram’s Palm Springs Plaza. On a weekend visit, we find out if it lives up to its name.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS WHAT WE LOVED

On a cold winter evening, an al fresco setting with cabanas and patio heaters is enough to melt your heart. But at Sexy Soda, this is just the beginning. An interesting name and even more interesting concept have earned this restobar a great deal of praise, just a month or so into its launch. The seating area is chic and cosy, with striking gold interiors and striking chandeliers vying for your attention. The lounge, a throwback to a Victorianstyle study, features plush aqua-hued velvet couches, wooden panels, and a shelf lined with books.

SIGNATURE DISHES DI RECOMMENDS

The menu at Sexy Soda is a combination of Mediterranean and Oriental dishes. What stands out from the Mediterranean collection is a range of cold mezze—from shakshouka to labneh (creamed Greek yoghurt) served with zaatar (herb mix), boondi crisps, and cucumber crescents, and hot mezze and tapas such as grilled halloumi (brined cheese) and

dukkah lamb chops (Egyptian spiced lamb chops with quinoa salad). A variety of shawarmas and pides (hand-stretched Turkish pizzas), and a unique array of mains including Moroccan lemonolive flavoured chicken, and koshari— the national dish of Egypt, with lentils, rice, and chickpeas topped with tomato sauce and savory crispy onions, are also worth trying. The Oriental kitchen at Sexy Soda specialises in Japanese fare—the lesserknown yakitori (skewered chicken) is as impeccable as its popular counterparts like tempuras, dimsums, baos, and sushis. The mains are a classic selection of curries and woks—think miso ramen bowls, Malay curry, Sichuan fire pots, and udon and pad Thai noodles.

FINAL TAKE WHY WE WOULD RETURN

One must not leave without sampling Sexy Soda’s signature soda-cocktails. Home-made sparkling waters infused with either green tea and saffron, lavender and fennel, or matcha tea and thyme, stirred with the spirit of your choice—gin, whiskey, or rum, make for unique drinks that you must try.
