FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK
India is a land of many cultures and many festivals. And some of the country’s biggest festivals commence this month. In our Festive Special issue, we take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about Bengal’s biggest festival— Durga Puja— away from the hustle-bustle of Kolkata to the township of Jamshedpur ( pg. 45). While our photo essay on Theyyam offers you a glimpse of this lesser-known dance ritual in South India ( pg. 48). Our cover story package takes one on a journey across India with some of the more unique rituals and celebrations that our sub- continent witnesses ( pg. 24). With this issue, we also travel to Guwahati through our City Guide— find out about the must-visit places and best experiences to enjoy when you’re in this part of Assam ( pg. 10). In Rajasthan, we traverse to Jodhpur for a luxe farm stay at Mihir Garh ( pg. 20). Get a taste of adventure in the Northeast with this raw road trip through Arunachal Pradesh ( pg. 32). And don’t forget to savour a taste of Varanasi through our gastronomic trail in India’s oldest city ( pg. 60).
As borders reopen, and travel within India gains momentum, we hope to continue the tradition of exploring, discovering, and immersing in new cultures and places— only this time, more responsibly, consciously, and mindfully.
