KHAJURAHO DANCE FESTIVAL, MADHYA PRADESH
Built between 950 to 1050 AD by the Chandela dynasty, the beautiful Khajuraho temples are famous for the intricately carved, erotic designs that cover their walls. Both stunning and a testament to the architecture of their time, the temples play host to an enthralling display of classical dances performed by renowned dancers from across India. Organised by the Department of Culture since 1975, this annual, week-long event takes place in February and celebrates life through various dance forms, such as Bharatnatyam, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Manipuri, Chhau, Kathak, and Mohiniattam. In addition to these performances, you can enjoy other activities and workshops here, including the Chalchitra—a cinematic ode to artistic traditions and creators; marvel at the items laid out at Samishthi, an exhibition for lovers of terracotta and ceramic; and sample Madhya Pradesh’s unique Bundeli food at Swad.
