Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey is a landmark movie in a multitude of ways. Not only is it eons ahead of its time, it is a technical marvel, and a terse meditation on the ultimate fate of humanity in this cold and barren universe of ours. The movie can be briefly described as a chronicle of man’s journey into the next stage of his evolution—the AI revolution is one of the major steps in this transformative process. Up until even a century ago, humanity was a technologically infantile species.

The devices of today were practically unfathomable then, and the average person from 1918 would have great difficulty in understanding the very concept of the internet. It is indeed a testament to the speed of technological evolution that we’ve come so far along in a mere century.
