Raj, Te­lan­gana see high voter turnout

Jaipur/new Delhi: Assem­bly elec­tions in Ra­jasthan and Te­lan­gana went off largely un­event­ful on Fri­day, cap­ping the five-state sea­son polls that had started on Novem­ber 12. The re­sults will be out on De­cem­ber 11.

In Ra­jasthan, 74 per cent vot­ers cast their bal­lot, while it stood at 67 per cent in Te­lan­gana.

Chief Minister Va­sund­hara Raje, Pradesh Congress Com­mit­tee chief Sachin Pilot and se­nior party leader Ashok Gehlot were among those who ex­er­cised their fran­chise in Ra­jasthan. Five years ago, a his­toric 75.23 per cent polling was recorded in the state which also saw a change in regime with the BJP re­turn­ing to power.

Sev­eral Tel­ugu film­stars, ten­nis player Sa­nia Mirza and ace shut­tler PV Sindhu were among those who ex­er­cised their fran­chise in Hyderabad. In the last Assem­bly elec­tions, the vote per­cent­age was recorded 69.5 per cent.

The Elec­tion Com­mis­sion said the fi­nal fig­ures for both the states would be re­vised later.
