Gad­kari faints on stage, blames low blood su­gar level

Mumbai: Union Minister Nitin Gad­kari had a health scare on Fri­day af­ter he fainted dur­ing a pub­lic event in Ma­ha­rash­tra’s Ahmed­na­gar dis­trict. The 61-year-old BJP leader fainted at the con­vo­ca­tion of the agri­cul­ture univer­sity at Rahuri while the na­tional an­them was be­ing sung. He at­trib­uted the episode to low su­gar and low oxy­gen sup­ply to his body as he was wear­ing con­vo­ca­tion robes. “I felt some suf­fo­ca­tion dur­ing the event. The pan­dal was air-tight. I was wear­ing the robes of the con­vo­ca­tion cer­e­mony, that is why there was less oxy­gen. My health is al­right,” Gad­kari said.

AP seeks `1,401 cr for drought re­lief

Amar­a­vati: Andhra Pradesh gov­ern­ment on Fri­day ap­pealed to the Cen­tre to im­me­di­ately re­lease Rs 1,401.54 crore as fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance for drought mit­i­ga­tion mea­sures in the state. As many as 347 man­dals spread over nine dis­tricts have been de­clared drought-hit be­cause of 34.8 per cent deficit in rain­fall dur­ing Kharif sea­son, Chief Minister N Chan­drababu Naidu told a cen­tral team.

Shifted hyena dies in As­sam zoo

Guwa­hati: A male hyena, which was re­cently translo­cated from Jhark­hand to As­sam State Zoo, died here fol­low­ing brief ill­ness caused by stress and in­fec­tion, an of­fi­cial said on Fri­day. The hyena, which ar­rived on Novem­ber 26 from Bhag­wan Birsa Bi­o­log­i­cal Park in Ranchi, slipped into coma on Tues­day and died on Thurs­day, a for­est of­fi­cer said.
