Ma­lik had come home to par­tic­i­pate in the last rites of his son when mil­i­tants struck. Arms and am­mu­ni­tion was re­cov­ered from the site of en­counter. Bod­ies of the ter­ror­ists were handed over to their fam­i­lies.

Mean­while, ter­ror­ists lobbed a grenade at a mar­ket near Pal­la­dium Chowk. Eleven peo­ple were in­jured in the at­tack – seven se­cu­rity per­son­nel and four civil­ians. The in­ci­dent oc­curred at 6.45 pm when the area was bustling with ac­tiv­i­ties. The in­jured civil­ians have been iden­ti­fied as Hu­maira, Ab­dul Qay­oom, Tal­iba Gul­shan and Shadab Shah. Po­lice said the in­jured have been shifted to the hos­pi­tals where their con­di­tion is stated to be sta­ble. Shop­pers throng Lal Chowk on Sun­day as ex­clu­sive Sun­day Mar­ket is es­tab­lished ev­ery week­end. “It was crowded and busy mar­ket place”, said San­jay Sharma, CRPF spokesman.
