Pa­tiala: At least 18 peo­ple were in­jured on Sun­day as po­lice lath­icharged a group of teach­ers march­ing to­wards Pun­jab Chief Min­is­ter Amarinder Singh’s res­i­dence here to protest against con­di­tions for their reg­u­lar­i­sa­tion, po­lice said. Six po­lice­men were among those in­jured in the melee as cops tried to dis­perse the pro­test­ers who wanted to gherao Singh’s res­i­dence, they said. The pro­test­ers were demon­strat­ing against the reg­u­lar­i­sa­tion pol­icy for 8,886 teach­ers of Adarsh schools, Sarva Shik­sha Ab­hiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Mad­hyamik Shik­sha Ab­hiyan.

Food poi­son­ing: 50 stu­dents fall ill

Lo­hardaga: At least 50 school stu­dents fell af­ter eat­ing ‘prasad’ in Jhark­hand’s Lo­hardaga on Sun­day, Civil Sur­geon Dr Vi­jay Ku­mar said. The stu­dents of the school at Ita vil­lage in the age group of 6-7 year had prasad af­ter Saraswati puja. Ac­cord­ing to Dr Ku­mar, the chil­dren of the school started vom­it­ing af­ter tak­ing bundi and have been ad­mit­ted to the Sadar hospi­tal. “All of them are out of dan­ger,” he said.

Sex de­ter­mi­na­tion racket busted

Hy­der­abad: A sex de­ter­mi­na­tion racket has been busted near here and a doc­tor ar­rested in this con­nec­tion, po­lice said on Sun­day. A team com­pris­ing health and po­lice of­fi­cials car­ried out a de­coy op­er­a­tion at a pri­vate scan­ning cen­tre in Ibrahim­pat­nam and ar­rested a doc­tor for con­duct­ing pre­na­tal sex de­ter­mi­na­tion tests.
