18, including 6 cops, injured in teachers’ protest
Patiala: At least 18 people were injured on Sunday as police lathicharged a group of teachers marching towards Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s residence here to protest against conditions for their regularisation, police said. Six policemen were among those injured in the melee as cops tried to disperse the protesters who wanted to gherao Singh’s residence, they said. The protesters were demonstrating against the regularisation policy for 8,886 teachers of Adarsh schools, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.
Food poisoning: 50 students fall ill
Lohardaga: At least 50 school students fell after eating ‘prasad’ in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga on Sunday, Civil Surgeon Dr Vijay Kumar said. The students of the school at Ita village in the age group of 6-7 year had prasad after Saraswati puja. According to Dr Kumar, the children of the school started vomiting after taking bundi and have been admitted to the Sadar hospital. “All of them are out of danger,” he said.
Sex determination racket busted
Hyderabad: A sex determination racket has been busted near here and a doctor arrested in this connection, police said on Sunday. A team comprising health and police officials carried out a decoy operation at a private scanning centre in Ibrahimpatnam and arrested a doctor for conducting prenatal sex determination tests.
