CAIT seeks setting up of separate dept in all states & UTS
New Delhi: Close on the heels of the Centre renaming the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) — a pan-india traders’ body — on Sunday demanded formation of Department of Internal Trade (DIT) in every state on the lines of the Central government.
The traders’ body has sent a memorandum in this regard to chief ministers of all states and Lt Governors of Union Territories.
The CAIT has made this demand to facilitate traders of different states to conduct business following the same pattern across country as well as developing better business opportunities in all states equally, the traders’ body said in statement.
“So far the domestic trade was controlled by several ministries but no one was the real in-charge in practical terms, but now it will fall under one Ministry (Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry), thus providing a single window solution. Same kind of clarity is required at the state level as well,” the statement said.
CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said, “In order to ensure better coordination
The traders’ body said so far domestic trade was controlled by several departments and not by one specific department.
They said forming a body along the lines of Centre’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade will help traders.
between the Centre and states for promoting domestic trade and to implement an impressive retail policy equally in all states, it is essential that a Department of Internal Trade is constituted at state levels.”
Stating that the traders play a “pivotal role” in the country’s economy, the CAIT memorandum said it is necessary that a DIT be formed in each state and a Trade Promotion Council should also be formed consisting of officials and traders.
