In­dia face Nepal with eye on fi­nal

Hosts In­dia would look to seal a place in the fi­nal of the Gold Cup women’s in­ter­na­tional foot­ball tour­na­ment when they face Nepal in their sec­ond round-robin match in Bhubaneswar on Mon­day. In­dia be­gan their cam­paign with a 1-0 win over Iran on Satur­day with Anju Ta­mang find­ing the net in the 48th minute and a win on Mon­day would take them to fi­nal of the four-team tour­na­ment. The win against Iran was In­dia’s fifth on the trot af­ter back-to-back vic­to­ries against both In­done­sia and Hong Kong in matches prior to this tour­na­ment.

Thun­der roar back to down Rock­ets

Rus­sell West­brook matched the NBA record with a ninth straight triple-dou­ble and Paul Ge­orge scored 15 of his 45 points in the fourth quar­ter as the Ok­la­homa City Thun­der roared back from a 26-point deficit to beat the Hous­ton Rock­ets. West­brook had 21 points, 11 as­sists and 12 re­bounds. His ninth straight triple-dou­ble matched the record set by Wilt Cham­ber­lain in 1968.

Advani wins na­tional crown

Coun­try’s ace cueist Pankaj Advani de­feated Lak­sh­man Rawat by 6-0 to clinch the 86th Se­nior Snooker Na­tional Cham­pi­onship ti­tle. Advani won by 70-36, 91-22, 66-06, 65-51, 77-49, 59-18 in the fi­nals in Indore. Advani said since he had played against Rawat ear­lier in other events, he was fa­mil­iar with his op­po­nent’s style.

Chen­nai be­gin push for ti­tle

Eyes firmly set on a maiden na­tional league tri­umph, league lead­ers Chen­nai City will take on Manipur out­fit Neroca in a re­turn leg Ileague fix­ture in Imphal on Mon­day. In­dia ‘A’ beat France ‘A’ 3-2

The In­dia ‘A’ women’s hockey team came back from a goal down to beat France ‘A’ 3-2 in the sec­ond match of the series in Go­rakh­pur on Sun­day. In the first-ever in­ter­na­tional match played at the Veer Ba­hadur Singh Sports Col­lege ground here, Mar­i­ana Ku­jur (19th minute), Lal­rem­si­ami (30th) and Mum­taz Khan (34th) scored to eke out the win.

Calicut ce­ment PVL playoffs spot
