India face Nepal with eye on final
Hosts India would look to seal a place in the final of the Gold Cup women’s international football tournament when they face Nepal in their second round-robin match in Bhubaneswar on Monday. India began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Iran on Saturday with Anju Tamang finding the net in the 48th minute and a win on Monday would take them to final of the four-team tournament. The win against Iran was India’s fifth on the trot after back-to-back victories against both Indonesia and Hong Kong in matches prior to this tournament.
Thunder roar back to down Rockets
Russell Westbrook matched the NBA record with a ninth straight triple-double and Paul George scored 15 of his 45 points in the fourth quarter as the Oklahoma City Thunder roared back from a 26-point deficit to beat the Houston Rockets. Westbrook had 21 points, 11 assists and 12 rebounds. His ninth straight triple-double matched the record set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1968.
Advani wins national crown
Country’s ace cueist Pankaj Advani defeated Lakshman Rawat by 6-0 to clinch the 86th Senior Snooker National Championship title. Advani won by 70-36, 91-22, 66-06, 65-51, 77-49, 59-18 in the finals in Indore. Advani said since he had played against Rawat earlier in other events, he was familiar with his opponent’s style.
Chennai begin push for title
Eyes firmly set on a maiden national league triumph, league leaders Chennai City will take on Manipur outfit Neroca in a return leg Ileague fixture in Imphal on Monday. Chennai, which have had an impeccable season so far winning 10 out of their 15 games so far and losing only twice to debutants Real Kashmir FC, is atop the table with 33 points just a point ahead of Real Kashmir.
India ‘A’ beat France ‘A’ 3-2
The India ‘A’ women’s hockey team came back from a goal down to beat France ‘A’ 3-2 in the second match of the series in Gorakhpur on Sunday. In the first-ever international match played at the Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College ground here, Mariana Kujur (19th minute), Lalremsiami (30th) and Mumtaz Khan (34th) scored to eke out the win.
