Woman enters well, dies after fall­ing 40 feet

Wa­ter scarcity in Ma­ha­rash­tra’s Ya­vat­mal dis­trict claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman, who fell into a well in search of wa­ter. The in­ci­dent took place at Male­wadi in Ma­ha­gaon tehsil Mon­day evening. Vi­mal Rathod had en­tered the half-dry well, the of­fi­cial said. While try­ing to de­scend fur­ther, she slipped and fell 40 feet on the rocky sur­face and died on the spot. After the in­ci­dent, vil­lagers of Male­wadi staged a protest at Gun­jphata and de­manded drinking wa­ter for the vil­lage.

Three held with cannabis at Kalwa

Three per­sons have been ar­rested for al­leged pos­ses­sion of 4 kg cannabis worth Rs 8 lakh at Kalwa. Act­ing on a tip-off, crime branch of­fi­cials nabbed Samir Alam Mo­ham­mad Is­mail Shaikh and Venkat Kale on June 8, said DCP, Crime, Deepak De­o­raj. Po­lice also seized a twowheeler and Rs 53,000 cash from their pos­ses­sion. Based on in­ter­ro­ga­tion, po­lice ar­rested As­lam An­sari, the al­leged sup­plier of the con­tra­band, from Navi Mum­bai. The trio have been booked un­der pro­vi­sions of the Nar­cotic Drugs and Psy­chotropic Sub­stances (NDPS) Act.

For­eign cig­a­rettes worth crores seized

The Direc­torate of Rev­enue In­tel­li­gence has seized 6.73 lakh cig­a­rette sticks from a south Mum­bai godown and ar­rested one per­son. The team has found 60 car­tons con­tain­ing var­i­ous for­eign brands, in­clud­ing Ben­son&hedges, Gu­dang Garam, Marl­bro, 555, Paris, which were re­cov­ered and seized un­der pro­vi­sions of the Cus­toms Act.
