Vijendra Gupta lashes out at AAP govt over delay in implementation of Centre’s mega health insurance scheme for the poor
The last-minute hurdle by the AAP government has derailed the process for sending a unique quick response code which will be sent on September, 5 to each identified family to avail of an annual cashless Health Insurance cover.
The leader of opposition Vijendra Gupta lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over delaying the implementation of the Central government’s mega health insurance scheme for the poor in the national Capital.
According to the party, with just three weeks for the rollout of the Central government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Arogaya Yojna on September 25, the AAP government has put obstacles in its implementation.
“It is going to derail the scheme in Delhi just because it is centrally sponsored. With the motive of taking full political credit for the centrally sponsored scheme, it wants the name of the scheme to be Mukhya Mantri Aam Aadami Swasthaya Beema Yojna – Ayushman Bharat,” said Vijender Gupta, leader of the opposition.
DNA reported on Thursday that the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had rejected Delhi government’s proposal to change the name of Centre’s ambitious Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Scheme to Aam Aadmi Mukhya Mantri Swasthya Bima YojanaAyushman Bharat. The name suggested by Delhi government gives emphasis to ‘Aam Aadmi’ and ‘Mukhya Mantri’ (Chief Minister). The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government had suggested the name as one of its conditions to adopt the scheme.
“The last-minute hurdle by the AAP government has derailed the process for sending a unique quick response (QR) code which will be sent on September, 5 to each identified family to avail of an annual cashless Health Insurance cover under the scheme,” added Gupta.
The health insurance scheme aims to provide a coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family annually and benefit more than 10 crore poor families across India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day speech, said his government will launch the ambitious the Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme on September 25.
Gupta further said that many states have already signed up for the scheme and the remaining states are likely to sign within a day or two.
