Several others who were injured in the fracas are undergoing treatment at a Greater Noida hospital. Heavy security has been deployed in the area as tension still prevails.

Two groups fired bullets and pelted bricks at each other in Jarcha area of the city on Wednesday during a cricket match.

“Rizwan was shot on his head and was admitted to the district hospital in Dadri in a critical condition. Later, he was transferred to a Ghaziabad-based private hospital where he died during treatment,” said Krishan Kumar Rana, station house officer of Jarcha Police Station.

The police said that the fight began when one Iliyas fired upon Mohammad Abbas, another resident of the village. This quarrel between them led to a clash between rival groups.

“Prima facie, it appears that the fight was to claim superiority. Based on the complaint filed by Mohammad Intezar, Rizwan’s uncle, we have booked five persons under relevant sections of the IPC,” said Rana.
