Bud­dhist monk held for sex­ual abuse of 15 boys in Bi­har’s Gaya

Patna: At least 15 boys, study­ing at a Bud­dhist novice school-cum-med­i­ta­tion cen­tre, have com­plained of phys­i­cal and sex­ual as­sault by the monk run­ning the in­sti­tu­tion, fol­low­ing which the po­lice launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion and ar­rested the ac­cused in Bi­har’s Gaya dis­trict.

The pre­lim­i­nary in­ves­ti­ga­tion also re­vealed sev­eral ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties at the ‘Pra­jna Jy­oti Bud­dhist Novice School and Med­i­ca­tion Cen­tre’, man­aged by Pra­jan So­cial Wel­fare Trust (PSWT) at Mastipura vil­lage un­der

Bodh Gaya po­lice sta­tion.

“The chil­dren were not just thrashed and mis­be­haved with, they have ac­cused the cen­tre man­ager Bhan­the Sang­hapriya Su­joy of hav­ing un­nat­u­ral sex with them. Su­joy has been taken into cus­tody and is be­ing in­ter­ro­gated,” said Gaya Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent of Po­lice Ra­jiv Mishra. He said the chil­dren and their par­ents have been kept un­der po­lice pro­tec­tion and the trust run­ning the school will also be in­ves­ti­gated.

A po­lice source said, “The boys, all aged be­tween six and 12, are from Karbi An­g­long in As­sam. The scan­dal came to light when they com­plained to their par­ents about Su­joy’s be­hav­iour and the is­sue reached the lo­cal po­lice. The cops sprung into ac­tion and res­cued the kids.
