Buddhist monk held for sexual abuse of 15 boys in Bihar’s Gaya
Patna: At least 15 boys, studying at a Buddhist novice school-cum-meditation centre, have complained of physical and sexual assault by the monk running the institution, following which the police launched an investigation and arrested the accused in Bihar’s Gaya district.
The preliminary investigation also revealed several irregularities at the ‘Prajna Jyoti Buddhist Novice School and Medication Centre’, managed by Prajan Social Welfare Trust (PSWT) at Mastipura village under
Bodh Gaya police station.
“The children were not just thrashed and misbehaved with, they have accused the centre manager Bhanthe Sanghapriya Sujoy of having unnatural sex with them. Sujoy has been taken into custody and is being interrogated,” said Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police Rajiv Mishra. He said the children and their parents have been kept under police protection and the trust running the school will also be investigated.
A police source said, “The boys, all aged between six and 12, are from Karbi Anglong in Assam. The scandal came to light when they complained to their parents about Sujoy’s behaviour and the issue reached the local police. The cops sprung into action and rescued the kids.
