3-yr-old dies after falling into septic tank
Chhath celebration came to a sorrowful end for this migrant family that lost their only son after he falls into an open manhole in Rohini’s Narela area on Friday morning. The tragedy struck the family few days ahead of the festival which ironically is celebrated for the long life of sons.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Dhruv (3), a resident of Narela.
Police said that the incident took place at around 11 am on Friday morning at an abandoned building where the deceased was playing with his friends. The three-year-old lost control and fell into an uncovered septic tank outside the abandoned building.
“The child was accompanied by his grandfather who had brought him to the place so that he could play with his friends. The building was abandoned for the past six months and there was no construction-taking place. Dhruv fell into the tank after he lost his balance, which resulted in his death,” said Gaurav Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini).
The police have registered a case against the landlord of the building who left the septic tank uncovered with no fencing around the tank or a signboard to warn the public.
According to the relatives, the family hails from Bihar.
“Being the only son in the family, he was pampered the most. Chhath is one of the most auspicious festivals for Bihari people and the entire family was preparing for it. The tragedy hit them and turned the festival into mourning,” said the deceased’s uncle.
“Dhruv’s father is an erickshaw driver and they live in a rented house at Narela. His mother is a house-maker and he has a six-month-old sister,” he added.
Prima facie, the cause of death appears to be drowning however, the autopsy reports are awaited.
