45-yr-old crushed by minibus, driver held
A 45-year-old man was crushed to death by a minibus in east Delhi’s Shakarpur area on Friday. Police said that the deceased had come to drop his mother when the incident took place. The driver of the RTV bus has been arrested, police said.
According to the police the deceased has been identified as, Mahender, a daily wage labourer, died while getting down from the bus after dropping her mother. The incident took place at around 10 am.
Police said that the victim had come to a bus stand near Laxmi Nagar Metro Station in east Delhi to drop his 68-yearold mother. After his mother boarded the RTV bus, he was getting down from the vehicle, the driver accelerated the vehicle and the man lost control and fell down from the bus.
“His head was crushed under the wheels of the bus. Locals informed the police and deceased was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was was declared brought dead. The bus driver fled the spot after the incident. However, he was arrested later and has been identified as Rahul (30). A case was registered in the matter on a complaint by his mother,” said Pankaj Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East).
Locals of the area alleged
that in areas like Laxmi Nagar, Patparganj and Mother dairy area these RTV’s and similar mode of vehicles doesn’t obey the traffic rules. The drivers of these vehicles stop the vehicle wherever they want risking the life of the passengers and this even create traffic jams on the road.
Locals further alleged that in order to get more passengers, the RTV are driven rashly and in a competitive way because of which numerous accidents took place in the area and the traffic officials are mere a mute spectator.
