BRU VOT­ERS IN MI­ZO­RAM

DNA (Delhi) - - STATE OF POLLS - Close to 35,000 refugees are cur­rently liv­ing in six re­lief set up camps across Tripura.

In The Bru peo­ple fled Mi­zo­ram af­ter eth­nic ri­ots were trig­gered by the killing of a Mizo for­est guard by cadres of the Bru Na­tional Lib­er­a­tion Front.

fam­i­lies ( about 4,000 mem­bers) have since been repa­tri­ated to Mi­zo­ram up to June, which also in­cludes self-repa­tri­a­tion. Mi­zo­ram has Bru vot­ers spread across nine assem­bly seg­ments in Ko­la­sib, Mamit and Lun­glei dis­tricts. Those repa­tri­ated are now set­tled in vil­lages.

In the EC had con­ducted a spe­cial re­vi­sion of vot­ers in the six refugee camps of North Tripura where the Bru fam­i­lies were liv­ing. A to­tal of

vot­ers were in­cluded in Mi­zo­ram’s elec­toral rolls and al­lowed to vote in the Lok Sabha elec­tion through postal bal­lots.
