Jaipur: The countdown for declaration of candidates by the Congress for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly polls has begun. The screening committee panel headed by Kumari Selja took feedback of four secretary in-charges on the panels of candidates in New Delhi on Friday and the first list of candidates is likely to be released on Tuesday after approval by the Central Election Committee (CEC) that will hold a meeting headed by party president Rahul Gandhi.
PCC chief Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan in-charge Avinash Pandey and Leader of Opposition in the state Rameshwar Dudi were also a part of the feedback meet where panels were discussed district wise. Sources said names have been suggested for over 120 seats and sent to Delhi for party chief ’s final approval. In earlier rounds of the meetings, the panel zeroed in on 90 seats, but Rahul had objections on many panels and directed the screening committee to re-examine them.

The state Congress faced controversies while preparing list of candidates. It was reported that some leaders gave ‘fake’ feedback on certain names which drew flak from the party high command in previous Central Election Committee meeting. A photo went viral on social media in which Selja was seen giving ticket to a candidate taking Rs 3.5 crore. However, Pilot came forward in everyone’s defence and dismissed the allegations.
