Treat me deemed superannuated, axed CBI chief Verma tells Centre
New Delhi: Alok Verma, former CBI director who was ousted by a high-powered committee, Friday asked the government to treat him “deemed superannuated” with immediate effect.
Refusing to take on his new assignment as Director General, Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Verma, in his letter to Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training, attacked the government and the selection committee. He stated the selection committee has not provided him with an opportunity to explain the details as recorded by the CVC before arriving at the decision of transferring him.
He said he would have already superannuated as on July 31, 2017, and was only serving the government as Director, CBI, till Jan 31, 2019, as the same was a fixed tenure role.
He writes, “The undersigned is no longer Director, CBI, and has already crossed his superannuation age for DG Dire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards. Accordingly, the undersigned may be deemed as superannuated with effect from today.”
He alleged the Selection Committee had not provided him with an opportunity to explain the details as recorded by the CVC before arriving at the decision.
“Natural justice was scuttled and the entire process was turned upside down in ensuring that the undersigned is removed,” he said.
