3 arrested for hacking MP’s e-mail account
Three foreign nationals have been arrested by the cyber police for allegedly hacking the e-mail account of Rajya Sabha member Husain Dalwai. The accused trio identified as Konate Mohamed (31) and Outtara N’Golhaud (32) from Ivory Coast and Okpeaifoh Michael (31) from Nigeria used to send e-mails seeking money under Dalwai’s name.
According to the cyber unit of city police, Dalwai’s secretary had earlier lodged a police complaint in the matter on October 13 after which the officials took a serious cognisance of the matter and began the search of the accused people. The cops had also booked the accused under section 419,420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and section 66, 66(c) and 66 (d) if the Information Technology Act.
“One of the accused had allegedly got access to the password of Dalwai’s email account and as part of their modus operandi, they used to send emails to different persons in his mailing list stating that he was facing a financial crisis and needed money on an urgent basis. During the course of investigation, the police team found that the hackers were in Delhi and they were tracked after a team was sent there.” said a police officer.
“A laptop, pen drives, mobile phones, ATM cards of various banks and a total of Rs 70,000 in cash were seized from the trio. We suspect that the money belongs to victims of their fake e-mails,” the officer added.
