3 ar­rested for hack­ing MP’s e-mail ac­count

Three for­eign na­tion­als have been ar­rested by the cy­ber po­lice for al­legedly hack­ing the e-mail ac­count of Ra­jya Sabha mem­ber Hu­sain Dal­wai. The ac­cused trio iden­ti­fied as Konate Mo­hamed (31) and Out­tara N’Gol­haud (32) from Ivory Coast and Ok­peaifoh Michael (31) from Nige­ria used to send e-mails seek­ing money un­der Dal­wai’s name.

Ac­cord­ing to the cy­ber unit of city po­lice, Dal­wai’s sec­re­tary had ear­lier lodged a po­lice com­plaint in the mat­ter on Oc­to­ber 13 af­ter which the of­fi­cials took a se­ri­ous cog­ni­sance of the mat­ter and be­gan the search of the ac­cused peo­ple. The cops had also booked the ac­cused un­der sec­tion 419,420 and 34 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code and sec­tion 66, 66(c) and 66 (d) if the In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy Act.

“One of the ac­cused had al­legedly got ac­cess to the pass­word of Dal­wai’s email ac­count and as part of their modus operandi, they used to send emails to dif­fer­ent per­sons in his mail­ing list stat­ing that he was fac­ing a fi­nan­cial cri­sis and needed money on an ur­gent ba­sis. Dur­ing the course of in­ves­ti­ga­tion, the po­lice team found that the hack­ers were in Delhi and they were tracked af­ter a team was sent there.” said a po­lice of­fi­cer.

“A lap­top, pen drives, mo­bile phones, ATM cards of var­i­ous banks and a to­tal of Rs 70,000 in cash were seized from the trio. We sus­pect that the money be­longs to vic­tims of their fake e-mails,” the of­fi­cer added.
