Sol­dier held in J& K for links to Bulandshahr

on re­turn­ing to Marathi cin­ema with Srinagar: An Army jawan, ac­cused of the mur­der of po­lice of­fi­cer in Bulandshahr, has been de­tained in Kash­mir. Jee­tendra Ma­lik alias Jeetu Fauji, who has been posted in Kash­mir val­ley, was de­tained by his unit af­ter his name sur­faced in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion of the killing of in­spec­tor Su­bodh Ku­mar Singh. Sources said he may be handed over to the UP po­lice soon.

UP po­lice, say sources, made a for­mal req­ui­si­tion to the Army for Ma­lik’s cus­tody af­ter his name cropped up dur­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions into the mob vi­o­lence that left two dead ear­lier this week in Ut­tar Pradesh. Ma­lik was on a leave when vi­o­lence broke out in his home­town on Mon­day, and he is said to have left for the Val­ley the same evening. He has al­legedly among the 27 named in the FIR for in­sti­gat­ing the vi­o­lence that broke out over cow car­casses.
