Udaipur: The pre-wedding celebrations being hosted by families of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal, who will wed at a lavish ceremony in Mumbai, began here on Saturday with a host of celebrities and dignitaries landing in the City of Lakes. The string of celebrations that are part of the Big Fat Indian Wedding reportedly feature performances by American singer Beyonce and India’s current favourite voice, Arijit Singh.

While Arijit performed on Saturday evening at the Oberoi Udaivilas, which was the centre of all action on the first day of the festivities, sources said the Grammy winner will perform at the City Palace.

According to sources, the Drunk in Love singer had reached the Lake City on Thursday and has been rehearsing there, while her crew reached on Saturday. The stage is set in the picturesque backdrop of the Oberoi Udaivilas Palace for her performance. Beyonce also reportedly did a sound check and preview performance in the noon. Some reports also hinted at performances by Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar being part of the weekend celebrations in Udaipur.

Dozens of chartered planes flew into the desert city with celebrities including former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton. Security was beefed up as the high-profile guests started arriving at the airport.

The Clintons and the Ambanis have an association that goes back more than 18 years and have met several times both in India and abroad, according to reports.

Then President Bill Clinton held meetings in India with the Ambanis, including deceased founder and Mukesh’s father Dhirubhai Ambani, just before and after he left the presidency in 2000-2001.

Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and newlyweds, actress Priyanka Chopra and singer Nick Jonas were among the guests. New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at the residence of Congress worker Jagdish Sharma, a close of aide of businessman Robert Vadra, on Saturday. This was in continuation with Friday’s raids on the homes and offices of Vadra’s associates Delhi and Bengaluru in a money laundering case related to an unnamed defence deal.

Sharma’s involvement came to light a day after the ED carried out raids at the premises of close associates of Vadra, son-in-law of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, for allegedly receiving money from defence suppliers, sources said. On Friday, the agency carried out raids at three places in Delhi and Bengaluru. Sharma is being questioned in the same case that is linked to Vadra.

It was alleged that besides receiving kickbacks for the deal, Sharma was in talks with the owners of a Hindi News channel to buy the media organisation. “Robert Vadra is being framed,” said Sharma, of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law.

The Modi govt wants to trap Vadra. Searches are on at my residence. What will they get when there is nothing? They are taking me to ED office for questioning Jagdish Sharma, close aide of Robert Vadra
