New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar for his alleged role in destroying and tampering evidence in Saradha chit fund scam to save top West Bengal politicians. He was grilled for eight hours and has been directed to join probe on Sunday again as CBI sleuths remained unconvinced with Kumar’s answers.
“He is a senior IPS officer and also a tough person to crack from whom we can extract information. We need more time. We have ample evidence against him,” said senior CBI officer adding he has been asked to join on Sunday. The agency also questioned him about his alleged role in tampering with call detail records of Sudipta Sen was CMD of Saradha Group and his close aide Debjani Mukherjee, a co-accused in the multi-crore deposit collection scam.
“The original CDR is different and what we received is different. It was manipulated,” said senior CBI officer adding more than 50 important phone calls before the arrest of Sen from influentials were manipulated intentionally from actual CDR to save some influentials.
The agency has also called former TMC MP Kunal Ghosh for questioning. In his statement before agency earlier, he has named various evidence and minute details of the other accused involved in the scam as well as who all helped them to escape and the law.
