The Land­scape En­vi­ron­ment Ad­vance­ment Foun­da­tion (LEAF) was founded in 2003, by Prof. Prab­hakar B. Bhag­wat. The or­gan­i­sa­tion un­der­takes re­search and pub­li­ca­tion in the ar­eas of land­scape de­sign and en­vi­ron­men­tal plan­ning. Over the years, LEAF has in­creased its ar­eas of ex­plo­ration to de­vel­op­ing city man­age­ment ma­tri­ces, gov­er­nance and ad­min­is­tra­tion stud­ies, ur­ban gen­er­a­tion, and open space out­reach ef­forts. It has also worked on a coun­try­wide ex­hi­bi­tion on land­scape de­sign — Trac­ing Nar­ra­tives, that explored the var­i­ous facets of land­scape de­sign and its his­tory in In­dia. Prof. Prab­hakar Bhag­wat taught and started the first Land­scape De­sign pro­gramme in In­dia, at IIT Kharag­pur in the 1950s, served as a Head of a Land­scape De­part­ment at Delhi, founded the Land­scape De­sign at CEPT Univer­sity, Ahmed­abad, and was the founder of ISOLA (In­dian So­ci­ety of Land­scape Ar­chi­tects). He was also awarded a mem­ber­ship of Bri­tish Land­scape In­sti­tute. Af­ter head­ing the En­vi­ron­men­tal Cell and teach­ing at NID for over a decade, he started his de­sign stu­dio in 1973, and it cur­rently con­tin­ues to lead in land­scape and en­vi­ron­men­tal de­sign in the coun­try. THE GRANT In an ef­fort to fur­ther ex­pand the ar­eas of re­search, LEAF is in­tro­duc­ing a Re­search Grant, pro­vided for is­sues on land­scape de­sign, plant ma­te­rial, por­trayal of plants in lit­er­a­ture, ar­chae­ol­ogy, and ideas of sus­tain­abil­ity and ecol­ogy. The time­line of the projects that will be funded will be for a pe­riod be­tween 8-12 months.It is open to all in­di­vid­u­als who have a keen in­ter­est in re­search in the fol­low­ing fields and the man­ner in which they im­pact man and en­vi­ron­ment: – Plant Ma­te­rial – Land­scape De­sign – Botany – Vedic Lit­er­a­ture – His­tory – Ar­chae­ol­ogy – Ethno-Botany – Ecol­ogy – Sus­tain­abil­ity For this round, ap­pli­ca­tions will be ac­cepted till end of Novem­ber 2018. Ap­pli­cants will be con­tacted in De­cem­ber and will be re­quired to start re­search by Fe­bru­ary 2019.
