Matrice and its ceramic alphabet

Domus - - RASSEGNA - Cedit – Ceramiche d’Italia

Making use of evocative elements typical of Italian modernist a rchitecture and studying the harmony of exposed concrete walls in a number of contemporary architectural solutions, the Matrice collection has led to the reinvention of a series of finishes that can be applied to porcelain stoneware. The tiles are articulated in finishes that visually suggest concrete, along with a smoother one that acts as a base. Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainò have used these surfaces as a starting point for developing the design further, applying a figurative code that negates the idea of the grid, connected to that of module. Using a vocabulary of graphic marks engraved on the tiles with a depth of 3 mm, a system for infinite combinations of possible arrangements is created.
