Government serious about straw burning

-

government has set aside funds to purchase over 34,000 machines to better manage paddy straw and avoid burning it in three northern states. Happy seeders, hay rakes and straw choppers will be bought for Punjab (13,700), Haryana (15,000) and Uttar Pradesh (6,045). Farmers in the three states burn crop residue during September-November and March-May, as wheat and paddy are grown in rotation in the region. It contributes significantly to air pollution in cities like Delhi. As a result, on December 10, 2015, the National Green Tribunal banned the burning of crop residue in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab.
