Water crisis to hit Asia by 2100

-

people in Asia are likely to face a severe water crisis by the end of the century. A study published in Nature Climate Change warns that glaciers feeding the Indus, Brahmaputra and Ganges basins are melting at an alarming rate due to global warming. Their annual runoff will rise until around 2050 after which it will steeply decline. The situation is also true for some rivers flowing from the Andes and the Alps. Global warming could also lead to a rise in sea level by 60 cm by the end of the century, says another study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
