Unfair comparison

-

This is regarding the web article "Is solar sector truly achieving grid parity?" (9 December, 2016). This article does not talk about the time required to set up a thermal power plant v solar plant. While thermal plant will supply power after a gestation period of five years, a solar plant only requires a an year. It is only after wide spread use of solar power that we have become a net exporter of power. The moment a carbon tax is imposed on the polluting plants, their cost of generation will go up in the same way as the cost of generation from solar plants installed without subsidy.

Therefore, it is wrong to say that conventional power is not being subsidised. The author has failed to make an unbiased comparison. PREM KUMAR KHULLER VIA EMAIL
