Outdated theory
Apropos the article "The Malthusian muddle" (16-30 April, 2018). The Malthusian theory on population envisaging that more number of hands help increase production when land is limited does not hold water because population explosion without planning will only prove disastrous to the economy. Haphazard growth is directly related to rise in population. It is, therefore, imperative that growth of population requires stabilisation at a point for equitable distribution of the fruits of economic growth. In short, the Malthusian concept is outdated and should be discarded without a second thought.
